The fixed-date argument is the one people underrate. If your Bali itinerary only allows one specific window, a charter can sail it and a scheduled departure may simply not exist that week.

What "private" buys you here

Not access. Padar has the same trail for everyone, the rangers run the same walk, and Manta Point is a public cleaning station. Nobody gets a different park for more money.

What it buys is sequencing and time. The captain can put you on the Padar ridge before the fleet arrives, sit at Manta Point until the mantas actually turn up, and skip a stop entirely if the light is better somewhere else. On a scheduled sailing the circuit is set.

And it buys the boat between the stops — dinner when you want it, the deck at two in the morning, and no negotiating with eight strangers about the music. For a family or a group of friends flying in together, that is usually the real purchase.

Putting it together

How a fly-and-sail week is built

Four days is the realistic minimum for a two-night charter done without rushing.

  1. Day one · fly in

    Denpasar to Labuan Bajo, sixty to seventy-five minutes. Take an early flight and sleep in town — a delayed domestic flight is the one thing that can cost you the charter.

  2. Day two · board

    Transfer to the harbour late morning, safety briefing, and under way by lunch. First stop the same afternoon; anchor at Kalong for dusk.

  3. Day three · the park

    Padar before six while the fleet is still in town, then Pink Beach, Manta Point and Taka Makassar at the hours your captain picks rather than the ones a schedule dictates.

  4. Day four · sail back and fly

    A last snorkel, alongside in Labuan Bajo early afternoon. Book the flight out for late afternoon, not straight off the boat — and later if anyone has been diving.

Three days is possible on an early flight in and a late one out, but it leaves no margin. Four is the version we would book ourselves.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the yacht sail from Bali?
No. You fly Denpasar to Labuan Bajo — about seventy minutes — and the charter starts there. Komodo is over 400 km east of Bali; a crossing by sea takes several days each way and is a different product entirely.
What does a private charter from Bali cost?
From USD 1,550 per yacht per night for a Deluxe phinisi, USD 1,800 to 9,850 for VIP, and from USD 3,800 for VVIP. Two nights at the entry rate is about USD 3,100 for the boat. Flights and the park ticket are separate.
Is private worth it for two people?
Usually not on price. Two people are better served by the best cabin on a scheduled sailing at USD 570 to 850 each. Private earns its money from about six people, or when your dates are fixed and no scheduled departure exists that week.
How many days do I need?
Four in total for a two-night charter: fly in day one, sail days two to four. Three works on an early flight in and a late one out, with no margin for a delay.
Can we design the route?
Within what wind and tide allow, yes — that is most of what a charter is. The captain will tell you what is realistic for your dates and inside that the days are yours.
What is included in the nightly rate?
The vessel, crew, fuel for the agreed route, all meals and drinking water, snorkelling gear, tenders and cabin linen. Excluded: flights, the park ticket, diving at USD 50–80 per dive, alcohol, insurance and gratuities.
