Four levers decide what you pay here, and three of them are yours to pull. Understand them and you can predict your own quote before you ask for it.

The price of a Komodo trip is set by four things — the format you choose, the season you travel in, how many share the cabin or the boat, and how many nights you stay — and only the format is genuinely fixed by what you want.
- Format moves the number most: USD 90 to USD 27,000 a night across the range.
- Season moves it perhaps a fifth: July and August against April–June or September–November.
- Occupancy can cut a per-person cabin rate by a third.
- Duration is close to linear on a charter — nights multiplied by the nightly rate.

The three high-control levers are occupancy, season and duration. If your budget does not reach, those are where to look first — not at a cheaper operator.

Two nights on a Deluxe phinisi at USD 1,550 a night. Nobody else aboard and a route you set — and about USD 775 each.
The gap between the cheapest and the whole boat is roughly USD 445 per person. Whether that is a lot depends entirely on what the trip is for, and it is a decision worth making deliberately rather than by default.

How to get the number down, honestly
In the order that actually works.
Fill the cabin first
Quad and triple cabins price per person. Four people in one is the single biggest saving on this page, and nobody spends waking hours in a cabin anyway.
Move the dates second
April to June and September to November sit inside the dry season and outside peak demand. September to November also gives the clearest water of the year — you pay less for a better trip.
Then cut a night, not the boat
Going from three nights to two saves a full nightly rate. Going from a Deluxe phinisi to something cheaper than the published range saves less and costs more in ways that matter.
Budget the park fee separately
The Komodo National Park ticket costs approximately USD 40–50 per international visitor and USD 20–25 per Indonesian visitor, paid separately.
What does not work: hunting for an operator below the published range. That saving comes out of crew, maintenance or safety equipment, and you are in a remote national park when it matters.

Each of these makes one option look better than it is.

- What single change saves the most?
- Filling a cabin. A quad room at four people prices roughly a third lower per head than the same cabin at two. Nothing else on the list moves the number as much for as little sacrifice.
- How much cheaper is the shoulder season?
- Meaningfully, though it varies by vessel and occupancy rather than following a published discount. April to June and September to November are inside the dry season and outside peak demand — and September to November has the best visibility of the year.
- Is a longer trip better value per day?
- On a charter it is close to linear — nights times the nightly rate — so no. The value argument for a second night is not price, it is Padar at sunrise and a pace that is not a forced march.
- Should I just find a cheaper operator?
- Below the published range the saving is coming out of crew, maintenance or safety equipment. In a remote park with real currents that is the one lever we would not touch, and we would say the same if you were booking elsewhere.
- Does the park fee ever change?
- Yes. It is set by the park authority under Government Regulation 36/2024 and has moved before. We quote the figure current on your date rather than the one on this page.
